Premise[]
Jerry tries to focus on his new soap opera, As the Cheese Turns, but Tom is determined to outdo him with his own show, 9 Lives to Live. However, Jerry becomes distracted by a charming young female mouse, and competes with another suitor vying to win her affections.
Synopsis[]
Tom lounged in his lawn chair, munching on a sandwich as he indulged in his cat-themed soap opera, "Nine Lives to Live". Meanwhile, Jerry sat in his own miniature lawn chair on the other side of the yard, chewing on a piece of cheese as he flipped through the channels. His eyes landed on "As the Cheese Turns", a mouse-themed soap opera that caught his attention.
With a mischievous glint in his eye, Jerry reached for the remote and changed the channel, much to Tom's dismay. Tom's eyes narrowed as he blew Jerry away with a leaf blower, sending the mouse scrambling for cover. Undeterred, Jerry emerged from his hiding spot and used a hose to drench Tom as he sat in his lawn chair.
The soaking wet cat stumbled out of his chair and into the nearby tool shed, where he emerged moments later in a mobile lawnmower, determined to get revenge. The mower roared to life, and Tom chased Jerry around the yard, destroying his lawn chair and remote control in the process.
As Jerry watched Tom careen out of control into a nearby pool, he couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. But his amusement was short-circuited by the sight of a beautiful adolescent mouse girl named Dejore swinging gently from a tree branch. Jerry's heart skipped a beat as he approached her, bouquet of flowers in paw.
He straightened his bowtie and smoothed his fur, trying to make a good impression. Just as he was about to greet her, an arrogant adolescent mouse named Slick swooped in, snatching the flowers from Jerry's paws and greeting Dejore himself.
Jerry seethed with jealousy at Slick's arrogance, but before he could react, Slick turned to him and ordered him to "beat it". Jerry decided to take matters into his own hands and pulled Slick's tail, grabbed back the flowers, and presented them to Dejore once more.
Slick's face turned red with rage as he grabbed Jerry by the arm and told him to leave. Dejore smiled politely at Jerry, and he couldn't help but feel a spark of hope that maybe this was the start of something special.
Back in Tom's yard, Tom continued to watch his soap opera as he ate chocolates. Jerry in love decided to play a prank on Tom by switching the chocolate cart with a barbecue cart filled with charcoal. However, Tom didn't notice until he recognized that the chocolate shouldn't taste horrible.
As Jerry carried the cart away, Slick secretly took away the chocolates and offered them to Dejore. Meanwhile, Jerry was chased by Tom again for the charcoal prank, but made it up a mailbox and taunted the kitten to go into the mailbox slot.
As Dejore was choosing which chocolate to eat first, Jerry tied Slick up with a water hose as Jerry caught the chocolates. As a mailman was getting mail, he inadvertently freed Tom, and the kitten chased Jerry again.
This time, Jerry used a rake to whack Tom across the face, sending him stumbling backward. Dejore gasped in shock at Jerry's bravery. Slick tried to match Jerry's courage with taunting Tom, but ended up getting commended for his bravery instead.
Tom's anger boiled over as he attacked Slick with a rake but missed again. Jerry dared Tom to cross a line, which he did, and got whacked with the rake once more. This time, Dejore swooned at Jerry's bold move.
As the chaos died down, Tom tried to sleep in his lawn chair but was awoken by punch all over his face. He stumbled out of his chair as Jerry and Dejore climbed up a tree together. Slick looked bewildered as he watched them go.
Jerry dove into a punch bowl as Tom woke up with punch all over his face once more. Dejore commended Jerry on his bravery as he came out of the punch bowl covered in liquid. But before anyone could react further, Slick tried to dive into another glass of punch.
This time, he succeeded but ended up spreading punch all over Tom's head. The kitten trapped Slick in the glass and shook him up before throwing him out. Dejore rushed to Slick's aid as he struggled to get back on his feet.
Heartbroken at being rejected once more by Dejore's sympathy towards Slick instead of him, Jerry walked away with some of his dignity intact but still sorrowful about what had transpired.
However, his sadness disappeared when he met another adolescent girl who caught his eye while jogging together.
