Synopsis[]
In a forest with the trees around a cabin chopped down, We see Spike completing construction of said cabin as Tyke reads a book. Spike In a lush forest, Spike is hard at work finishing the construction of a cabin while his son Tyke enjoys a book nearby. Curious about Tyke's reading material, Spike asks what he's engrossed in. Tyke explains the importance of reforesting and protecting the environment, but Spike, still oblivious, brushes off the idea.
Meanwhile, a determined beaver named Boomer emerges from a creek, scouting for a location to build his dam. To his dismay, he discovers that many trees have been chopped down and a cabin has taken their place. Furious, Boomer bangs on the cabin door, berating Spike and Tyke for their destruction of the forest and demanding lumber for his dam. Spike retorts with a flippant comment, suggesting Boomer should construct his dam with cement blocks.
Feeling sorrowful about the situation, Tyke is distraught over the loss of the forest due to his father's actions. In a fit of anger, Boomer retaliates by sawing a hole in the cabin's floor, prompting an enraged Spike to chase him up the chimney. Stuck and frustrated, Boomer chews around the chimney's smokestack, leading to a chaotic fall that crashes Spike down.
As Boomer continues to claim wood from the cabin, Spike devises a plan to capture him. However, Boomer cleverly uses a tree branch to catapult the front door straight at Spike, knocking him flat. With Boomer now hauling a log, Spike grabs another piece of wood and hurls it at him. In a brilliant display of skill, Boomer rides the log like a surfboard, turning it into a boomerang that comes back to hit Spike in the back of the head while he tries to hide in a barrel.
Back on his feet, Spike watches in disbelief as Boomer gnaws at the cabin’s front wall, causing it to collapse harmlessly around him. The beaver then pushes a piano off the cabin, crushing Spike beneath its weight. Tyke, witnessing his father’s relentless pursuit of Boomer, pleads for him to stop, but Spike is undeterred. In a last-ditch effort to take down the beaver, Spike ascends a ladder made from tree branches, unaware that Boomer is gnawing at the rungs.
As the ladder crumbles, Spike resorts to using it as stilts, but Boomer retaliates by placing a skateboard under one leg, sending Spike crashing into the front porch with a comedic thud. In a final act of humiliation, Boomer cleans out the cabin of all its furniture and wood—leaving only the roof, which comically lands on Spike’s head. Defeated and humbled, Spike surrenders to Boomer.
With the completion of his dam—now built from the remains of the cabin and its contents—Tyke expresses admiration for his father for allowing Boomer to finish his home. Grateful, Boomer thanks Spike and Tyke, revealing he has two children of his own—a son and a daughter. Spike then apologizes to Boomer for his selfishness regarding the wood, finally understanding what it means to be a good dad and provide a home for family. Tyke adds that every home should have a dad, as he embraces Spike in a heartfelt hug.
