Carmen is a character that appeared in the Gene Deitch Tom and Jerry short, "Carmen Get It!". She is an opera singer that plays the role of Carmen in the Metropolitan Opera performance of the opera of the same name.

Appearance[]

Carmen is a rather shapely woman with cleavage. She has curly black hair and two nostrils that make up her nose. Her mouth is shown to be capable of stretching out wide, possibly implying that she's an excellent singer. Her makeup consists of red lips, blue eyeshadow, heavy black eyeliner, thick black eyebrows, and a round black beauty mark on the right side of her face.

Her costume consists of a frilly red dress, a frilly red felt crown, black heels, a necklace made up of black round beads, and round golden earrings.

Personality[]

While not much is known about her personality, it can be implied that the opera singer is generally sultry and friendly, though she can easily be frightened, especially when it comes to mice.

Biography[]

She only appears in Carmen Get It!, in which she makes a minor appearance.

Prior to her physical appearance in the cartoon, she appears earlier on in a poster behind the security guard who attempts to kick Tom out of the opera, until the cat successfully sneaks in disguised as a musician for the orchestra.

Later on, when the orchestra gets through the overture - which was interrupted many times by Tom and Jerry's shenanigans - it was now time for the actual opera to start with the "Habanera" number, which was going to be performed by Carmen herself.

The curtains open, revealing a Spanish town setting, where Carmen was by herself. As the music starts, she begins strutting to the tune. Just when she was about to sing, she notices Jerry on the stage, dancing while dressed as a toreador. Frightened by the sight of Jerry, Carmen screams loudly and shakes rapidly, before she scrambles away from Jerry, and backstage.

Notes[]

  • Her scream was recycled from the earlier Gene Deitch cartoon, Buddies Thicker Than Water, in which the scream was done by Tom's female owner, also upon seeing Jerry.
  • When Carmen was scrambling backstage away from Jerry, her face takes on a completely different design.
