Digital Dilemma is the sixteenth episode of Tom and Jerry Tales, originally airing on November 18th, 2006. It is directed by Neal Sternecky, written by Tom Minton and with storyboards by Kevin Frank.
Synopsis[]
After building a personal computer to play games, Tom and Jerry suddenly find themselves trapped inside the circuitry after lightning strikes the machine.
Plot[]
The episode opens with Tom in a junkyard, digging through the trash. He finds a large cone-shaped object and throws it into a wheelbarrow that is loaded with junk he had collected. He then rushes back home with his haul. A montage of Tom assembling a contraption is shown before the camera then cuts to Jerry sleeping in his hole, only to be disturbed by the loud noises made by Tom's construction project. Jerry wakes up and heads out of his hole, only to see what Tom is up to: he is building a computer! He sees Tom climbing up an "antenna" going through a hole in the roof of the house, adjusts a bent hanger on top, before climbing back down and sitting in a chair in front of the computer.
Tom presses a button to turn the computer on, but nothing happens. He angrily smacks the side of the computer, which causes it to power on. He then notices Jerry nearby and grabs him. He then places a small contraption on Jerry's tail and uses him as a computer mouse. He pulls up solitaire on the computer and begins playing. After some time, a thunderstorm begins brewing outside. A bolt of lightning strikes the antenna, causing Tom and Jerry to be pulled into the computer.
The pair begin falling down, during which Jerry pulls the contraption off of his tail and throws it at Tom's head in frustration. They then land on a circuit board, which acts like a trampoline and bounces them forward. They then fly through several ads before hitting a firewall. They then land into a large pool of liquid which suddenly forms into small waves. Tom and Jerry manage to "surf the web" before a much larger wave comes and knocks them deeper into the digital world. They land on another circuit board, and electricity starts to form, before Tom and Jerry are launched in separate directions.
After Tom lands, he notices something sitting next to him: a digital clone of himself! He walks up and they shake hands, only for three more clones to appear and for Tom to be knocked into a wall. Meanwhile, something similar happens to Jerry, who also has a digital clone. Tom and his digital clones begin approaching Jerry and his clone, causing them to panic and run into each other, creating three more digital Jerry clones.
Tom and his digital clones notice this, and begin drawing a line between the two groups. Tom then summons a fireball and throws it like a volleyball towards Jerry, who hits it back. They all begin hitting the ball back and forth, with the screen cutting to show how it looks outside the computer: a 5-versus-5 game of Pong. After some time, Tom manages to spike the ball so hard that it hits Jerry right in the face, burning him. Tom and his digital clones snicker to themselves, believing they have the upper hand.
Jerry, furious, then summons a larger fireball and throws it at Tom, who is still laughing. Tom is burnt to a crisp, with only his eyes and eyebrows intact. Tom's digital clones give Jerry a round of applause, to which Jerry bows. This makes Tom angry, and he literally rises from the ashes as a strange aura begins glowing around his paws. He starts firing laser blasts at Jerry, and manages to delete all of Jerry's digital clones in the process. Jerry is soon surrounded, but manages to think of a solution. Jerry dodges Tom's laser blasts and runs up his arm and onto his head. Tom begins pounding his head with his paws, causing his digital clones to do the same. Tom stops pounding his head and notices his clones copying his actions. He motions for them to stop, but they don't. Tom notices that a electrical field is starting to form from his clones pounding themselves, worrying him. He starts backing away, but Jerry grabs Tom by the tail and they run away. Tom's digital clones then summon a massive fireball that chases the duo.
The scene then fades to show the interior of the house, which is now filling with water as rain is falling through the hole in the roof. The antenna of the computer is struck by lightning again, and Tom and Jerry return to the real world. Tom, not wanting this to happen again, grabs an axe and furiously destroys the computer. The scene then fades again to show Tom playing solitaire once more, this time with actual cards and the destroyed computer still in the background. He begins struggling with one card he draws, but Jerry walks up holding a piece of cheese and points to where the card is to be placed. The episode ends with Tom and Jerry smiling at each other, having put their differences aside for the time being.
