Doggie Championship is a thirty-fourth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
When Spike gets his leg broken while training due to Tom and Jerry's antics, the protagonists take Spike's place in a contest as the secret weapon while his leg recovers.
Plot[]
Tom is chasing Jerry in the park. Some lanes away, Spike is exercisng. Quacker approaches Spike in flight out of curiosity. Spike tells the little duck that he is training for the event called dog championship and the reward for the winner is a year supply of t-bone steaks. Having finished explaining, Spike then continues the events by going to the hurdles, Tom and Jerry run through the hurdles, one gets Spike in the air for one of the hurdles landing on his leg, causing the limb to be injured. Despite the wound, he holds Tom and eventually Jerry, then he tells them they are responsible for his leg injury and must repay by helping him in the competition.
Tom takes Spike's place in the Doggie championship by dressing himself as a dog. Spike trains him for the competition, including the course how to be a dog. Tom goes through training for the events such as sitting, panting, playing dead, and catching the frisbee. After the completed training, Tom proves himself to Spike being incapable of pretending to be a dog until Jerry steals the doughnut from the cat, making Tom chase after the mouse. When chasing Jerry, he is shown to jump over hurdles and catch frisbees in his mouth. Spike sees the scene and gets an idea.
Spike sees that Tom is the "greatest dog in the world" when it comes to chasing Jerry. Spike explains the plan to Jerry. The dog competitors are: Ace, Rocco, Bernice, and Puggsy. The first part of the tournament requires to destroy a couch. Jerry gets Tom's attention to get him motivated, as the other dogs get ready, Tom and the dogs go destroy they couches, Tom wins by destroying his one first before his rivals manage to destroy own couches. The next event relies on dogs knocking out the most trash cans to win. Tom knocks out the most trash cans thanks to his experience in chasing Jerry, surpassing his rivals. As the result, Tom wins the event, and Spike claps for him.
The next event requires from the contestants to dig up the garden. Jerry peaks the garden while Tom chases Jerry through under the dirt after digging. In the process, Tom loses his dog disguise. Being revealed that he is a cat, Tom is disqualified, then the dog contestants attack Tom. Spike breaks while looking at this scene, despite his injuries. He goes inside the fighting cloud to save Tom from the outraged dogs. The dogs follow behind, Spike is running the course as other dogs have been eliminated by obstacles, Spike's goes through the all the events, and is declared the winner of the Doggie Championship.
Spike shares his giant T-bone steak with Tom and Jerry. The meat was planned to be split in equal shares, but Jerry has other plans and takes the entire steak for himself. Tom swallows the steak whole while Jerry manages to get out the steak and slaps Tom with the meat. Jerry flees with the big, juicy steak and Tom rushes after him. After making a statement, Spike joins the chase in getting back the steak from Jerry.

Errors[]
- Spike appears to be smiling before he facepalms himself.
- In the scene where the dogs glare at Tom after he wins the "destroying the couch" event, Rocco appears to be much smaller than Ace.
