Dream Team is the twenty-seventh episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
Tom dreams of a basketball championship assisted by Jerry.
Plot[]
Jerry is about to eat an ice cream sandwich in front of the hotel, but Tom snatches it before Jerry can have a bite. While enjoying his new snack, Tom discards the paper right at Jerry. The mouse gets upset and tosses the paper back at Tom in rage. Before Tom can make a retribution, Butch interrupts him and cheats Tom to play the rolled paper like a basketball. Quite amazingly, Tom seems handling the ball so well, that it catches Jimmy's attention. Jerry catches the sandwich Tom drops, but Butch intercepts it and pushes Jerry away right on Tom, so he can enjoy the ice cream sandwich. Feeling defeated, Tom tosses the paper ball into the waste basket near Jimmy. The doorman notices the paper lands in place like a basketball and compliments Tom's skills.
Tom imagines having own basketball team and a match against Butch. A team of five Tom-alike cats called "Big City Tom Cats" is pitted against the same-strength unit of Butch look-alikes, who are called "The Alley Cat Troublemakers." Lead Big City Tomcat attempts to shake hands with his equivalent among the opponents, but receives a blow at hand instead. Before the cats manage to start a fight, Spike interrupts them by starting the match. The first half of the match goes well for the Alley Cat Troublemakers, they score 2 points after severe fight and using movable stairs on trolley to score the hit.
Spike is about to start the second half of the match, when chief Big City Tomcat sneaks past him into the Alley Cat Troublemakers part and kicks Spike in his back. The cat retreats and Spike starts a fight with Alley Cat Troublemakers leader. His counterpart takes the ball, then another round of stadium violence erupts. The Troublemakers did the best to defend their half of the stadium - when the lead Tomcat attempts to get a score, he gets ejected high above the ground. After flight, he scores a hit for adversaries and crashes to the ground. While recovering, Jerry approaches the crash site. The mouse split opens the ball and agrees to help the Tomcats.
With Jerry's help, Tom's team defeats Butch's one without much trouble, the Alley Cats lose will to fight. Jerry emerges from the basketball with a concussion, yet the lead Tomcat grabs him and kisses him, then he gloats over victory. At the same time, Tom's dream comes to an end and the scenery goes back to New York. Being visibly in good mood, Tom gives Jerry the same ice cream sandwich Jerry wanted to eat earlier in the episode, then he happily walks away. Jerry does not know, what is happening and the episode ends.
