Tiny Bulldog is a recurring character in the Chuck Jones-era of Tom and Jerry. He is a bulldog who is a friend of Jerry and the canine foil to Tom.

Appearance[]

Tiny is a yellow brown-ish bulldog with a white belly. In his first two appearances he is a normal sized bulldog, in his third and fourth appearance has him or a smaller relative of the dog is seen as micro mouse sized bulldog in some of his appearances.

The normal-sized dog is designed similarly to Spike Bulldog, was shown in Much Ado About Mousing and Tom-ic Energy. A mini-sized dog who's size is equivalent to Jerry's appeared in Cat's Me-Ouch! and Purr-Chance to Dream.

Personality[]

As the average sized bulldog, his role is similar to Spike (in cartoons such as The Bodyguard and Fit To Be Tied) which is to defend Jerry against Tom. His looks and personality are similar to Spike. He is shown as a bodyguard to protect Jerry, though less aggressive and more mild-mannered.

As a unnormally small sized dog, he is loyal and devoted towards Jerry and acts feisty and ferocious towards anyone who is threat to his mouse master. Tom often underestimates the dog's ability, which he perceives as a threat, the Tiny bulldog is shown to be strong to even defeating a Tom who is larger than him. Unlike Spike and Tyke, he has a big bite (similar to those of Looney Tunes' Tasmanian Devil). By comparison, the smaller dog is more aggressive than his larger counterpart.

The smaller bulldog is far more aggressive than bigger.

Trivia[]

  • Though Tiny is never given an official name in the cartoons, and is never seen again in future Tom and Jerry media after the Chuck Jones era, some Tom and Jerry fans still confuse him as the same bulldog as Spike Bulldog from the Hanna-Barbera era cartoons, due to his similar roles to that of Spike in these cartoons, despite him not intended to be the same bulldog.
  • Tiny makes a close resemblance to the bulldog named Belvedere from the 1950 Looney Tunes cartoon Dog Gone South, which the dog's design's is based on. The two characters were also created by Chuck Jones and voiced by Mel Blanc.
