Not to be confused with Fraidy Cat or the Tom & Jerry Kids episode?

"Fraidycat Scat" (also spelled as Fraidy Cat Scat) is the second segment of the 4th episode of Season 1 of Tom and Jerry Tales. It is the eleventh episode overall in the series. It is directed by Tim Maltby, written by Charles Schneider and storyboarded by Jennifer Coyle.

Synopsis[]

At an old mansion Jerry's relaxing time is disturbed when Tom decides to move in, leading to Jerry to try to scare Tom out using old things in the place.

Plot[]

Jerry is first seen inside a dusty old mansion, having a party all on his own. After eating some food left on the table he was underneath, he goes to sleep in a small hammock, only to be disturbed by something. Tom is shown to have arrived in the mansion, and notices how dusty it is. He decides to bust out his vacuum and begins cleaning house, not knowing Jerry is in the house with him. He proceeds to suck Jerry up with his vacuum, but he manages to escape and puts Tom's tail into the vacuum. Tom is pulled into the vacuum, which promptly explodes and sends dust all over the mansion again.

Jerry laughs at Tom's misfortune, only for them to come face-to-face once more. Tom tries to chase Jerry, but runs into a wall while Jerry enters through the mousehole. Tom then comes up with another solution to get rid of Jerry. He lays several futuristic-looking mousetraps along the floor, with Jerry unknowingly watching from a shelf behind Tom. Tom then decides to test one of them and pulls out a toy mouse, placing it on the mousetrap along with a piece of cheese. A laser proceeds to disintegrate the toy mouse, much to Jerry's horror.

Soon, the mansion is spotless, and Tom decides to relax and watch TV. He turns it on to a program featuring a ghost, which he simply laughs off. He changes the channel to one featuring a floating skull laughing maniacally, which leaves him scared. Jerry, still observing Tom, sees a skull next to him on the shelf, and he soon gets an idea. He climbs into the skull, and makes his way towards Tom, who is still scared by the laughing skull. Jerry then climbs on top of the TV and lunges at Tom, scaring him so much that he turns the TV off. He tries to relax by reading a magazine, but the skull finds him again. It proceeds to bite Tom on his tail, causing him to scream in pain and run away, with Jerry laughing inside the skull.

Tom rushes into the kitchen and grabs the chandelier, only to fall off onto the table. The chandelier also falls onto the table, causing Tom to be stuffed inside a turkey on a plate. The skull is also launched by the chandelier, hitting a knife board and sending all sorts of knives flying towards Tom, scaring him again. A fork pins his tail to the wall, and Tom curls into a ball to avoid the other knives, which form the shape of a skull on the wall. Jerry, still in the skull, bites Tom on the nose, causing him to scream again and run off. He tries to get the skull off by banging a door on it, which fails. He then tries using a book to knock the skull loose, which works, but Tom is left dazed.

The skull lands onto a lamp nearby, which is then covered by a sheet and then adorned with deer antlers. It soon begins moving towards Tom, with Jerry making spooky noises inside the skull. Tom wakes up, sees this new specter, and is so frightened his skeleton pops out of his body, causing him to "melt" onto the ground. After getting his skeleton back in his skin, he runs into a corner, where he begs for his life. Then, the sheet gets caught on a nail in the floor, causing it to fall off and reveal that Jerry was behind everything. Tom is absolutely furious at Jerry while Jerry becomes scared that he's been exposed, but before Tom can do anything, a headless ghost suddenly arrives, saying the duo "nearly scared the afterlife out of him." This time, both Tom and Jerry are frightened, and they escape the mansion. The ghost asks, "Leaving so soon?" then with a maniacal laugh, proclaims "Boo." The episode ends with Tom and Jerry running away from the mansion and into the moonlight.

Trivia[]

  • The plot synopsis is similar to the short Fraidy Cat in which Jerry tries to scare Tom by pretending to be a ghost, Tom eventually finds out about the trick much later and both lose in the end due to the intro of another character (Mammy Two-Shoes, and the headless ghost-like figure respectively).
  • Gal Cat from Blue Cat Blues makes a cameo in the front cover of the magazine that Tom reads in.
  • In the Japanese dub of this episode, the laughter of the skull on the television is muted when Jerry jumps at Tom while wearing a skull of his own.
  • This episode, alongside "Bats What I Like About the South," and "Tomb It May Concern," premiered 3 days before Halloween.
