June Foray was an American voice actress, best known for her various voice-over roles at Disney and Warner Bros. Cartoons, and is the most well-known as the original voices of Granny, Mrs. Daffy Duck and Witch Hazel from Looney Tunes, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and Rocky the Squirrel and Natasha Fatale in Jay Ward Productions' The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.
She provided the voice for Joan in the Hanna-Barbera-era Tom and Jerry cartoons before being replaced by Julie Bennett, the vocal effects of Jerry in certain Chuck Jones-era Tom and Jerry shorts, and Groteska in the Tom & Jerry Kids Show episode "Doom Manor".
She even voiced the white Mammy Two-Shoes substitutes created by Chuck Jones for CBS airings of the Hanna-Barbera-era Tom and Jerry shorts, replacing the original black Mammy Two Shoes character. These white Mammy substitutes were usually a similar-looking white woman, except for "Saturday Evening Puss" where the original black Mammy has been reanimated as a thin white teenage girl. Regardless of the white Mammy substitutes used by Chuck Jones in CBS airings of these Tom and Jerry shorts, they're all voiced by June Foray with an Irish accent. Some TV versions of these Tom and Jerry shorts aired in the 1970s and 1980s had Foray's voice erroneously synced over the original "Black Mammy" animation (and vice-versa), possibly due to carelessness on the part of TV stations matching the wrong picture and sound elements for these affected Tom and Jerry shorts.
