Tom and Jerry are best known as a pantomime duo, usually relying on slapstick violence and a small number of screams to get their point across. Despite this, the characters can talk, or even sing, when the situation calls for it.

- Puss Gets the Boot: Jerry (Jinx) says in prayer: "Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I hope and hope my soul He'll take. Amen."
- The Lonesome Mouse: Jerry speaks to Tom about formulating a plan to get him back in the house. Jerry also yells "TIMBER!!!" before Mammy Two-Shoes' stool falls over.
- The Zoot Cat: "Say, something is burning around here!"
- The Million Dollar Cat: At the end, Tom snaps and tries to harm Jerry. He grabs the mouse by his tail and says, “Gee, I'm throwing away a million dollars. But I'm happy!" then goes back to chasing Jerry and destroying the room.
- The Bodyguard: "In me power."
- Mouse Trouble and The Missing Mouse: After Tom is beaten by Jerry and after the explosion, respectively, he faces the audience and says, in a deep, droning voice, "Don't you believe it!"
- The Mouse Comes to Dinner: "Hey, what's cooking?"
- Quiet Please!: "One custard pie? Let me have it!”
- The Milky Waif: "Well howdy-doo, Mr. Tom! Hurry up, honey child! Land's sakes! Hurry up, honey child!"

- Texas Tom: Tom sings a song, “If you’re ever down in Texas, look me up” to try to impress the cowgirl cat, Tara, while Jerry tries to stop him.
- The Framed Cat: "Come on boy! Up, up! Come on! That's a good boy! Steady now!"
- Cruise Cat: After Jerry kicks Tom into the storage room which he loaded with explosives and locks him in there, we hear Tom screaming "HELP! GOD! LET ME OUT-“ in a muffled voice, not knowing the explosives are there, before he gets blasted from inside.
- Tom and Chérie: "En garde!"
- That's My Mommy: "No!"
- Mucho Mouse: Tom reads in Spanish "Cómo estás usted, señorita?" ("How are you, miss?") on his Guide Book.

- Tom and Jerry: The Lost Dragon: While Puffy was a stone, Tom mimics Puffy and says "Mama".
