Plot[]
In his mousehole, Jerry Mouse hangs up Christmas stockings for himself and his little friend Tuffy. Jerry then looks out of his door to find Tom Cat nearby in the Big People's kitchen. Tom is guarding the goodies in the kitchen and on the tree; doing so will result in Cook rewarding him with some of the Christmas dinner. In order to find things for stuffing their stockings, Jerry saws a new doorway to bypass Tom, which distracts the cat.
Tuffy takes over sawing as Jerry exits from the back door, carrying a pillowcase as a bag. On a table, Jerry gathers candy, nuts, and stuffed dates into his bag. He accidentally bumps into a bowl near the edge, causing it to crash on the floor and spill cranberry sauce. Tom hears the crash and runs into the kitchen, finding Jerry carrying his bag back to his mousehole. Upon seeing the spilt cranberry sauce, Tom reluctantly licks it up, knowing he will not get Christmas dinner if Cook sees the mess.
After finishing the new door, Jerry and Tuffy observe the Big People's Christmas tree, both in awe at its beauty. Tuffy expresses a desire to have the little horn near the top of the tree, while Jerry desires the little drum on it. Both smile "secret smiles" before going to bed. Tuffy sneaks out of the mousehole when Jerry appears to be asleep, retrieving the little drum, hiding it under his bed, and going back to sleep. Jerry then sneaks out to retrieve the little horn. Upon arriving at the bottom of the tree, Jerry spots Tom creeping toward his mousehole.
Jerry hides by the trunk, thinking Tom is trying to catch him. Instead, Tom carries a small, beautiful Christmas tree, decorated with popcorn, cheese, and candy beads, and places it in the mousehole through the new door. Tom appears sheepish as he walks away, murmuring that "Christmas comes but once a year." Amazed, Jerry places his present for Tuffy under the new tree. He then wakes up Tuffy, bringing him to their storeroom to carry a new can of sardines. The can is tied with red ribbon and propped against Tom's bowl. When Tuffy asks why they are giving Tom a present, Jerry shows him their Christmas tree and explains that it came from Tom. The mice then give each other their presents and use them to play carols.
Tom soon finds his present, realizing it came from Jerry and Tuffy. With tears of joy, he purrs the same music being played by the mice. The three of them then gather together, with Jerry and Tuffy sitting on either side of Tom, and play and sing in harmony "A very merry Christmas to ALL!"
