Mattel, Inc. (/məˈtɛl/ mə-TEL) is an American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company founded in Los Angeles by Harold Matson and the husband-and-wife duo of Ruth and Elliot Handler in January 1945 and headquartered in El Segundo, California. Mattel has a presence in 35 countries and territories; its products are sold in more than 150 countries. Mattel is best known for Barbie, Hot Wheels, Power Wheels, Matchbox, Tyco R/C, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Polly Pocket, Street Sharks, Extreme Dinosaurs, Mighty Max, Max Steel, Shogun Warriors, Monster High, Mega Bloks, Imaginext, Fisher-Price, UNO, Magic 8 Ball, View-Master, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Slime, See 'n Say and American Girls.
Mattel's chief competitor is Hasbro.
Mattel produced Tom and Jerry toys in the 1960s and later toys for Tom and Jerry: The Movie in the early 1990s. Hot Wheels has cars based on Tom and Jerry that are Walmart exclusives.
