MeTV (Memorable Entertainment Television) is an American broadcast television network. It is marketed as "The Definitive Destination for Classic TV", airing classic television shows from different decades and genres.
Since 2021, MeTV has aired the animation blocks Toon In with Me and Saturday Morning Cartoons, both of which air Tom and Jerry along with other MGM animated short films, including those from directors such as Hugh Harman, Rudolf Ising, William Hanna, Joseph Barbera, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones. Saturday Morning Cartoons airs MGM material during The Tom and Jerry Show, which makes up the second third of the block. Other animated film series shown on the animation blocks are Looney Tunes, Popeye, Betty Boop, and Woody Woodpecker. The Pink Panther, The Inspector, and Roland and Rattfink aired on both blocks from May 2021 to April 2023. Cartoons occasionally shown on Toon In with Me are Superman and Color Classics from Paramount as well as those from Columbia/Screen Gems.
On June 25, 2024, the spin-off network MeTV Toons launched.
Censorship[]
Much like the other classic cartoons that air on the network (the Warner Bros. shorts, especially), the Tom and Jerry cartoons are not edited on MeTV for violence, dangerous behavior, and scenes of tobacco and alcohol consumption like they were on other American TV channels from the 1960s to the 2000s. However, the Tom and Jerry cartoons are still edited for outdated racial gags and stereotypes, particularly scenes of characters in blackface after an explosion and any scene featuring the African-American housemaid character, Mammy Two-Shoes.
Notes[]
- Most of the Tom and Jerry shorts aired on MeTV have no cue marks flashed at the end of such shorts, due to MeTV airing the more recent restored versions.
