Miramax (also known as Miramax Films) is an American film and television production and distribution company founded on December 19, 1979 by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, based in Los Angeles, California. The company is named after their parents, Miriam and Max by combining their names.
It was owned by The Walt Disney Company from 1993 to 2010. It is currently owned 51% by beIN Media Group and 49% by Paramount Global. Paramount currently has the video distribution rights to about every Miramax movies, including the pre-2005 Dimension Films movies.
Miramax distributed films like Clerks, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Chasing Amy, Jackie Brown, Jerry and Tom (no connection to the Tom and Jerry franchise), the first three Scream movies (through Dimension Films), 40 Days and 40 Nights, Kill Bill: Volume 1 & 2, Advenureland, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Sick and The Beekeeper.
Miramax distributed the American release of Tom and Jerry: The Movie on July 30, 1993. Despite this, neither Miramax nor Disney was involved in the original video release of the movie; it was released by Family Home Entertainment on October 26 that year.
