Museum Peace is the fifth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
When an elephant sleepwalks inside a museum. Jerry helps the elephant escape the museum.
Plot[]
Tom is chasing Jerry down the street at evening hours. The animals stumble upon a grocery stall, where Tom gets struck by fruits and obtains an elephant-shaped mask. After shrugging off the fruits, Tom pursues Jerry into the subway, only to get stomped by the crowd. Tom spots Jerry at the nearest manhole, then he inflates himself and rushes at Jerry. The cat is stopped by the worker, who forcibly opens the manhole, causing Tom to splatter. The chase is resumed at the museum, which is being closed for the night.
Inside the museum, the animals run through the halls and they reach a desert wildlife exhibition. They both leap on a bison model, then Jerry uses a snake model to distract Tom for a moment and catapult himself. Tom fails to follow, as he hits the wall, which causes a mountain goat model to suppress him. Shortly afterwards, the animals run to the tropical area exhibition, where Jerry hides behind the elephant. It turns out, that the latter is a real elephant named Chapman, who wants to see the world outside the museum. Jerry willingly agrees.
Chapman and Jerry leave the museum at night, using the fence wall as a mean to reach the city - Chapman pretends to be asleep while moving, then he climbs the wall and reaches the ground. The elephant initially causes a chaos within the city traffic, but when he gets into the people, he doesn't seem much noticed. Jerry and his friend return to the museum through the rear door, under a cover of a truck driving by. Shortly afterwards, Tom appears at the vending machine and buys himself a bag of peanuts, unaware of Jerry and Chapman nearby. The elephant steals the peanuts by putting his trunk into the bag, accidentally stomping Jerry. Tom spots the peanut thief surpassing him, and he flees in terror. Jerry feeds Chapman and they decide to leave the museum for sure.
Meanwhile, Tom stumbles upon Rosie and notifies her about the elephant as best as he can. The guard unwillingly decides to investigate the issue. At first, Rosie and Tom find crushed peanut shells at the place Chapman was stationed, then they spot a huge hole in the wall, which indicates a huge quadrupedal animal pierced through it. Jerry and Chapman are strolling down the New York streets, amazingly not causing attention from the passerby, only Rosie and Tom are following their tracks. They even somehow manage to fit inside a subway, where Rosie fails to spot the elephant among the passerby. Jerry and Chapman move around the people without causing suspicion, heading towards the zoo. Jerry sneaks past the gate, while Chapman climbs the wall unnoticed. The animals find the place for elephants, where Chapman settles as if he belonged there. The zoo guard on duty recognizes Chapman as the local elephant, when Rosie contacts him on the phone so Tom pick up the peanut shells until Rosie take her cap and slap him.
The episode ends well for Chapman the Elephant, who found a better home is the zoo, and for Jerry too, who aided him. Outraged Rosie hit Tom with her cap and chases him around the city.
