Opel Automobile GmbH, usually shortened to Opel, is a German automobile manufacturer founded by Adam Opel in 1862. It started as a company manufactured bicycles and sewing machines. It entered the automobile business in 1899, four years after Adam Opel's death in 1895. It has been a subsidiary of Stellantis since January 16, 2021. It was owned by the American automaker General Motors from 1929 to 2017 and the PSA Group, a predecessor of Stellantis, from 2017 to 2021. Some Opel vehicles were badge-engineered in Australia under the Holden brand until 2020 and in North America and China under the Buick, Saturn, and Cadillac brands.
Four Opel commercials involving Tom and Jerry were made in the early 1990s. Two involved Cherie Mouse appearing at the end with the riff to the song "Layla". Two other commercials use recycled clips from The Night Before Christmas, The Yankee Doodle Mouse and Heavenly Puss.
