Tom and Jerry Wiki

Quacker is a recurring character in the Tom and Jerry series. He is a yellow duckling. Quacker is normally getting chased by Tom and Jerry is trying to save Quacker from getting eaten by cat. He makes his first appearance in Little Quacker.

Quacker talks a lot compared to Tom and Jerry. In many shorts, he is the only one who speaks. He is very trusting, even trusting Tom in many situations in which Tom wishes to eat him. He is a good friend of Jerry, but unlike Jerry, he harbors no hard feelings towards Tom. Quacker is often mistaken as appearing in The Duck Doctor, but the Duck appearing in that short is a wild duck.

Character Overview[]

Personality[]

Quacker is a childlike yellow duck. Although he is considered a yellow duck, the only exception is the short The Duck Doctor, where Quacker has an appearance of an American duck, because of the fact that the people at MGM tried to prevent Quacker from being confused with Cuckoo, the little canary that has a similar appearance to Quacker.

Appearance[]

Quacker is a yellow American Pekin Duck with blue eyes white underbelly, orange bill and palmate feet. His height and size are the same as Jerry.

Biography[]

Quacker is a young duckling who is part brood that consists of six ducklings who are raised by their parents Mother Duck and (occasionally) Henry. Quacker's siblings resemble him and one another, however Quacker is distinguish by his action that are different from the other. He also likely the youngest, considering that he is the last hatchling to hatch in the brood.

History[]

Tom and Jerry cartoons[]

Quacker debuted in Little Quacker (1950). In the short, Tom steals an egg from a nest, but when he cracks it open, Quacker falls out from the egg instead. The duck escapes to Jerry's mousehole, meeting Jerry. Quacker speaks to Jerry about Tom trying to eat him, so Jerry helps Quacker avoid Tom and get back with his mother.

A similar duck appeared in The Duck Doctor (1952), however the wild duck is not the same duck as Quacker. Quacker makes his second appearance in Just Ducky (1953), where he has siblings, and was intially unable to swim with the help of Jerry. In the same year, a novel called Meet Little Quack was published.

Quacker would continue to appear in Tom and Jerry cartoons until his final golden-age appearance in The Vanishing Duck (1958).

Quacker was later adapted into the Hanna-Barbera character Yakky Doodle in 1961.

Although Quacker was absent from the series during the the Gene Deitch-era and Chuck Jones-era, he continued to appear in novels such as the Tom & Jerry Specials (Dell/Gold Key) comics.

The Tom and Jerry Show (1975)[]

After being absent for two eras, Quacker reappeared in The Tom and Jerry Show (1975) episode "The Lost Duckling", where he is lost from his flock and is helped by both Tom (who has no intentions of eating him) and Jerry. His appearance and personality in the episode resembles himself in the cartoons.

Tom and Jerry Tales[]

After not appearing in the previous two series, he made a minor appearance in the Tom and Jerry Tales episode "Catch Me Though You Can't", where he and his siblings are seen accompanied the Mother Duck. Unlike his many appearance, Quacker does not speak and is rather mute (with exception of him and his siblings chanting for Jerry).

The Tom and Jerry Show (2014)[]

Quacker reappeared in The Tom and Jerry Show (2014) as major supporting character who appeared starting with the episode "Belly Achin'".

Tom and Jerry in New York[]

Quacker appears in Tom and Jerry in New York less frequently in the series either nonspeaking appearances or small cameos. He first appeared in "Torpedon't", where he has no dialogue. His first major speaking role in the series was his appearance in "Quacker's Lucky Penny". He also spoked in "Ready Teddy".

In his three appearances in the series's second season, he only makes minor nonspeaking appearances until in series final, "Flamingo A-Go-Go".

Other Appearances[]

Tom and Jerry Chase[]

Quacker appeared in Tom and Jerry Chase as a NPC. He leaves items for players to use, proven to be helpful however, if the playable cat or mouse hit him, he will retaliate by chasing them to attack them with a small mallet.
