Notes[]
- In Season 2 and 3, he mostly appears in "The Cat and Mouse Detectives" episodes. In Season 4, Red Herring was mostly seen in TV.
- He speaks with a Bronx accent.
- He bears a bit of a resemblance to popular cartoon dog character Scooby-Doo.
- His name is an humorous play on the phrase of the same name: "red herring." This is a term to describe something that is misleading or distracting from something important, such as a mystery or a clue to one.
- Incidentally, he is viewed as a suspect from a crime in many of his appearances, yet he doesn't appear to be the true criminal or the main cause of the crime, nor is he in possession of any missing or stolen item or items that is the main cause of any cases the cat and mouse detectives solve. The only possible exceptions for at least one of these scenarios were All That Glitters and Slam Dunk.
- Additionally, in most of his appearances, he says or does something that is often misleading to both Tom and Jerry and the audience and usually has nothing to do with the case the two detectives are trying to solve, mostly for comedic purposes. As such, he is usually depicted as a comic relief character in many of the detective-themed episodes.
- There is a character with the same name from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, and the two are similar since they are both mostly innocent in a crime or case.
- Also, a red herring is a herring (a type of fish) that turned red while being smoked and dried.
- Red is one of the many characters from The Tom and Jerry Show to appear in Tom and Jerry in New York, the others being Frankie, Rutger, Rolf, and Rudy, Dollface, Edna, and Ace and Rocco.
- In Lost Marbles, it revealed that Red's favorite color is gold.
