Relativity is the fortieth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
Tom stalks Jerry’s jolly German nephews during their stay at New York City.
Plot[]
Jerry running down the stair from Tom, both coming into a table by a vase by the cat saves a vase from dropping, Jerry takes the opportunity to smash Tom's foot with a hammer and makes Tom's foot in pain, this makes him drop the vase and broke. Tom looks for Jerry in one of the hotel's bags, Jerry was in the shirt that was thrown out giving the mouse to escape without Tom's knowing. Jerry enters mouse hole to hearing oompa music playing to see his three German nephews Rutger, Rolf and Rudy from Bavaria, as to their excitement to explore to explore in New York.
As there getting out the mouse hole, Jerry tries to be stealthy until he noticed his cousins are wondering around the hotel, there believing that New York is in from of them until Jerry shows them that there where in lobby of the hotel, Rolf then ask if they could get cheese first before exploring the city as the others agree, Jerry pushes them to his mouse hole and goes out to find cheese. They decided not to keep still, they come upon a sleeping Tom to thinking that it was "Hans the Katzen" and decided to go greet him with their traditional Bavarian wake-up call, they put a vase on the cat's head making him run around the lobby. Until he managed to get it off his head. The cat falls on the floor with an grumpy expression, the trio then say hello to him by pulling his whiskers this annoyed Tom enough for him to give them a glaring expression at them as the German mice soon realize that it's not the same "Hans" from their village.
Jerry returns with a plate of cheese to feed his cousins, he then sees Tom plan to bring harm to his German cousins, he quickly throws at plate at him that end up on his mouth, He pushes his German cousins away from danger, not looking Jerry loses them passing under the luggage cart leaving Jerry unconscious. Rutger, Rolf and Rudy are now out in the city of hotel. They head to the hot dog stand across the street. Tom removes the plate out his mouth and comes after the mouse trio awhile his way he steps on Jerry that had regain conscious. As soon as Tom makes it to the street, he then finds the three mice swimming inside the hot dog grease, they then believe he's playing tag and cover Tom with green relish, yellow mustard and red ketchup, this makes him retreat, kicking the hot dog stand in the process, the trio find themselves rolling on hot dogs. The hot dog cart crashes into a cheese store.
The cheese shop manager faints cause of the damage that happens, they then noticed the cheese in street, they go to the cheese shop. Jerry goes out from the hotel and tries reunite with his cousins, but the vehicles stop him from doing so, as the German mice enjoy cheese. Lightning appears and notices the three German mice and considers eating them for dinner, Jerry makes it to the cheese store and wanted to attack the ginger cat with a spatula until Tom out of nowhere flies his fist on Lightning's face for both cats to crash to the counter. Jerry gets stuck in the glass, as Rutger, Rolf and Rudy witness both Tom and Lightning who both want the mice, but both disagree to work together, so Tom pushes, Lightning retaliates and shoves Tom to the shelf of cheese to land on him. Jerry tries to push the glass to a hole to get of the container, Lightning attempts in getting trapped Jerry, until Tom pelted his face with cheese, to stunning him, Tom punches Lightning on the face, Tom also attempt at getting the mice, Jerry quickly pulls the glass over the hole, Tom's attempt on getting Jerry failed, Lightning hits Tom with baguette, both cats stop fighting after noticing that Jerry and his German cousins them escaping out the store.
Tom and Lightning both intend to preventing it until both cats' tails are gripped by the cheese shop owner, both cats gulp. It was time for Rutger, Rolf and Rudy to leave New York, they enjoyed there visit they would come back again with more relatives, before they leave they give their cousin Jerry a great big hug. They all leave on the bus as they then say goodbye to Jerry as he waves at them. As the bus leaves, Jerry spots across the street that the Cheese store owner has made Tom and Lightning are holding laminated glass to replace the glass that was broken earlier. Both cats managed to broke the glass off-screen, Jerry then shrugs at the screen as if to say to the audience, "That was a close one, Folks!" and the episode ends.

- This is the first time Rutger, Rolf and Rudy appear outside of The Tom and Jerry Show, their first appearances in Tom and Jerry in New York, and the first time they appear in an episode that takes place in a modern-day environment.
- This is also the first time Stephen Stanton voices Lightning, as well as his first speaking role in an episode since the Tom and Jerry Show episode Missing in Traction (not counting some short exclamations in Brain Food or screaming in Vegged Out).
- This is also Lightning's first major role in a episode since the theatrical shorts, additionally giving his personality and a voice that fit with it.
Goofs[]
- Rutger, Rolf and Rudy are referred to as Jerry's nephews in this episode, however, in the Tom and Jerry Show episode, "The Three Little Mice", they are said to be HIS cousins. Nonetheless, the description for this episode still refers to them as his cousins.
