Scents and Sensibility is the nineteenth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
A bottle of dog-attracting perfume gets into Jerry's hand and is used to harass Tom.
Plot[]
Jerry is hiding behind a flower pot. He spots a food basket on a pillow and attempts to reach it. Before Jerry makes it through, Tom leaps from the basket with a sausage in his hand. He chases Jerry and beats him with the sausage, until Jerry hides inside his mouse hole. Having repelled his adversary, Tom enjoys his "blunt weapon" as a meal. At the same time, Armand and Molly are testing perfumes supposed to attract dogs brought by hotel guests. Jerry sneaks past the humans and pickpockets Molly from the perfume bottle, then he uses the perfume on Tom, who is sleeping.
Having been struck with a scent, Tom wakes up and chases Jerry around the hotel. Dogs brought by hotel guests feel the scent and follow Tom, who notices being chased himself. The cat tries to get rid off the dogs by hiding on the table and feeding them with meals found there, all without success. Even luring the canines to the swimming pool does not do the trick. Only Molly manages to separate Tom from the dogs. Jerry finds the situation amusing.
Tom attempts to get even with Jerry, when the latter sprays the perfume on the cat once again. At the same time, a new guest has brought a Great Dane dog with himself. The canine smells the scent and heads toward Tom. The cat spots another threat and flees from the hotel to the Central Park. Other dogs feel the same pleasant smell and join the chase. Jerry appears there as well. The Great Dane keeps chasing Tom, while Jerry is running with the cat. Tom pretends to act like a park monument, which fools the canine temporarily. The disguise is broken by pigeons - one of the birds causes Jerry to sneeze. As a result, the perfume spills on Tom once again and the Great Dane feels the scent. The dog sits close to Tom, but it doesn't make him actual harm.
The friendly atmosphere ends, when the dog licks Tom's scent away, which renders the canine hostile. Tom flees and the dog goes after him. Jerry accidentally trips over a rock and spills the remaining perfume on himself, which affects the dog. This time Jerry has to flee from the canine and finds a shelter on top of the monument. The episode ends with Tom laughing at Jerry, because he is a smelly rat. Jerry was annoyed and he needs a bath.
