Screwball "Screwy" Squirrel is a cartoon character, an anthropomorphic squirrel created by Tex Avery for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, generally considered the wackiest of the screwball cartoon characters of the 1940s.
As his name suggests, he is a crazy, hyperactive, brash and erratic squirrel with a penchant for causing mischief. Among some of the more outrageous cartoon characters, Screwy's feats include pulling objects out of thin air, doubling himself, and breaking the fourth wall, all the while uttering a characteristic cackling laugh.
Screwy Squirrel made a comeback in 1993 being part of Droopy, Master Detective, a short-lived spin-off and successor to Tom & Jerry Kids Show, with his own segment going by his real name, "Screwball" where he lives in a public park making the lives of the hot-headed park attendant, Dweeble and his dog, Rumpley miserable. He also wears his Napoleon hat from Happy-Go-Nutty (except with a "S", instead of a "N") along with a red shirt. He is voiced by Charlie Adler.
Both Screwy Squirrel and his archnemesis, Meathead make appearances as residents of 'Fairyland' in Tom and Jerry's Giant Adventure retaining most of their traits. Screwy Squirrel is voiced by Paul Reubens and Meathead is voiced by John DiMaggio.
Screwy Squirrel made a silent cameo appearance in The Tom and Jerry Show (2014) episode "Kid Stuff". He also makes speaking appearances in the episodes "Double Dog Trouble", "Ballad Of The Catnip Kid", and "Sock it to Me", as well as cameos in "Ball of Fire", "Dry Hard", and "Camelot Cat". In this show, he is voiced by Sean Kenin.
