Shoe In is the tenth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
Tom and Jerry help a cobbler with repairing the shoes in his store.
Plot[]
The chase begins on a sunny day. The animals run between people down the street, then they reach a building with "Music" written on facade. Jerry emerges from the building with a bell in his hand. Shortly afterwards, Tom is falling down the stairs with a drum covering his head. After a brief recovery, he chases Jerry around the downtown. The chase leads from the streets and buildings to the cobbler shop run by a man called Al. Tom and Jerry make some mess, including tap dancing, until the business owner spots Tom and forcibly kicks him off the premises. Unfortunately for Al, he hurts himself at the hand, so he can't work this day and he has to close his shop.
Having found a safe haven, Jerry elects to mend a couple of shoes while Al is away - he manages to sand old cowboy boots into lady's footwear and fix some damaged pairs of shoes. When Al comes back, he notices fixed shoes and Jerry being responsible for the work. An elderly lady enters the shop and she pays for a pair of shoes Jerry mended previously. It also turns out that the elderly lady knows the cobbler personally, calling him "Al". The satisfied business owner rewards Jerry with a sandwich. Tom is watching the scene and feel jealous. When Al goes outside the shop, Tom sneaks inside, grabs a hammer and attacks Jerry. The mouse directs Tom's wrath to make more shoes mended - while remaining in rage, Tom hammers soles to moccasins and sews a damaged pair of cowboy boots.
The rage evaporates from Tom and he comes to conclusion, that if he helps the cobbler, he should also get a sandwich as a reward. From this very reason, Tom gives up his eternal vendetta against Jerry and goes for mending shoes in masses. When Al comes back to his workshop, he notices the shoes have been repaired and put in a nice order on display. Tom gets his reward, though not the one he expected - instead of a sandwich, Al gives him pink slippers, which infuriate Tom. Jerry finds this issue amusing, until Tom prepares to jump at him, which leads to resuming the chase. The cat gradually gets rid off his unwanted prize while chasing Jerry. The episode ends with Tom running bipedal with only leg slippers remaining.
