Spaced Out Cat is the twenty-seventh episode of Tom and Jerry Tales. It is directed by Douglas McCarthy, written by Eric Donald and Jim Gomez and storyboard by David M. Stephan.

Synopsis

In order to impress Toodles, Tom builds a rocket to become the first person on the moon with Jerry hitching a ride.

Plot

While in the park, Tom sees Toodles Galore and gives her some flowers as a gift. However, Spike (dressed in a repo-man outfit and tank top) drives up on a motorcycle, offering Toodles a ride, to which she accepts. Spike tells Tom "it's okay to be second" before driving off. Tom is left heartbroken at having lost his girlfriend once again and heads home. He decides to turn on the radio to distract himself, but then hears an announcement for the annual "Space Race to the Moon," an event where participants must build a rocket from scratch and fly it to the moon, with the first one to land winning 1.5 billion dollars. Tom sees this as an opportunity to win back Toodles and gets to work.

Tom begins drawing blueprints for his rocket, and proceeds to build it rather quickly. He soon proceeds to start the countdown sequence and blasts off to the moon. Tom engages the autopilot and gravity systems and decides to relax. However, Jerry (who had heard the announcement on the radio) is revealed to have snuck aboard the ship carrying a camera. He takes two pictures before Tom notices his presence. He proceeds to chase after Jerry, but runs into a door and falls to the floor. Jerry then uses the gravity control system of the rocket to cause Tom even more pain. He takes another picture before Tom continues the chase. Jerry soon reaches a dead end, and Tom confiscates his camera before ejecting it into space.

Tom then grabs a wrench and proceeds to attack Jerry again, but accidentally damages the rocket's control panel, causing it to descend. The rocket crash lands on the moon and grinds to a stop. Tom soon hops out and plants his flag before doing a victory dance, while Jerry sits down and proceeds to eat part of the moon, believing it to be cheese. Just then, Spike flies in on his motorcycle with Toodles on board, breaking Tom's flag. Spike plants his own flag and proceeds to brag to Tom, saying that he can help stake his billion and a half claims, leaving Toodles angered. Karma bites Spike in the rear, however, as Jerry's camera suddenly returns and knocks Spike unconscious. The episode ends with Tom finally kissing Toodles, with Jerry getting his camera back again and taking a photo to document the event.

Trivia

• Just like Mickey and Minnie, this is the first time Tom and Toodles have kissed.
• Tom, Jerry, Spike and Toodles are on the moon in outer space without any spacesuits or space helmets filled with oxygen. In real life, nobody can survive in outer space, especially on the moon without a spacesuit and oxygen because of the radiation, extreme vast coldness of the vacuum of space, and lack of air to breathe due to the moon itself having no atmosphere.
  • Also, Jerry was eating some pieces of the moon, which happens to be made out of green cheese in this cartoon, which it's really an old myth of the moon being made out of cheese, especially "green cheese". In real life, the moon is actually made out of rock.
• This episode shows that Tom has mechanical skills, as he was able to build his own spaceship that works.
• The spaceship is animated in CGI.
  • This is the third episode where CGI was used. The first being "Cat Nebula," and the second being "Martian Mice."

Errors

• Tom's tuft hairs were shortened when Jerry took a picture of him after his imagination with him and Toodles on the moon.
• For a split second when Tom was going up and down because of gravity, his teeth, mouth and hands are tinted black.

• This Episode was banned in the Arab countries and Middle East.
