Stormin' the Doorman is the twelfth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
A new doorman called Jimmy is helping Mr. Piper at work. His patience is being tested by Tom and Jerry.
Plot[]
It's a cold night, apparently in autumn. At the hotel, Mr. Piper is awaiting his alternate to appear. The employee named Jimmy in question arrives, being late to work. After being scolded by his superior, Jimmy gets his duties explained and receives a post at the door, while Mr. Piper leaves the area. Shortly afterwards, Tom & Jerry elected to have their chase take place here and now, thus they run off the premises when Jimmy is lacing up his shoe. The cold weather outside the hotel literally chills the protagonists and makes them return to the hotel. Jimmy refuses to let them in.
Tom begins from just entering the door past Jimmy, which winds up with Jimmy tearing Tom's fur from him. When Tom receives his pelt back, a taxi cab drives by with a dignified hotel guest Jimmy is doing his best to impress. Jerry sneaks past the doorman by hiding himself inside a travel case, while Tom sneaks into a suit on stand, effectively fooling the guard. Both animals cross the door undetected until Tom abandons the mobile clothes' hanger and walks around the hotel dressed in mismatched suit. Jimmy immiediately spots him and stops, rendering Tom without his disguise save for suit trousers. Tom dances with Jimmy and spins him, which distracts the doorman for enough long, so Tom can escape. Jimmy follows Tom upstairs, where Tom rejoins with Jerry and grabs the mouse without warning, only to be grabbed by Jimmy. The deputy doorman sacks Tom and Jerry through the rear door, so the animals join forces against him.
Jimmy is maintaining his position, while Tom is spilling glue on the pavement. Jerry lures Jimmy right into the sticky ambush, so the animals can sneak past the hotel while their opponent is dealing with shoe-damaing substance. Being forced to dispose his footwear, Jimmy starts to feel the cold night. The animals are laughing inside the hotel, until they spot exasperated Jimmy walking at their direction, which forces them to flee. Jerry hides behind the bulldog, while Tom finds his shelter inside the coat worn by an elderly lady. Jimmy's attempt to catch the animals is foiled by the customer, who strikes Jimmy right into his face, then she scolds him.
The junior doorman keeps chasing Tom & Jerry around the hotel, often between stories. At one moment, he elects to attack them with fire extinguisher, when they are expected to leave the elevator. The plan suffers from a miscalculation, as Jimmy attacks the same elderly lady with a bulldog, who has hit him at the face before. As a result, Jimmy gets hit once again. The animals lead Jimmy into the hotel's roof, where Mr. Piper is supposedly resting. His break is disturbed by Jimmy chasing Tom & Jerry. The animals head to the end of the roof, so they could leap before Jimmy catches them. His superior grabs him and demands explanation, what is going on. The doormen spot Tom and Jerry resting under a travel advertisement, pretending to have left New York for tropical lands and the episode ends.

Trivia[]
- The way Jimmy messes up Mr. Piper's name seems reminescent of the way Top Cat from old Hanna-Barbera cartoons mispronounces Officer Dibble's name. The difference is that Jimmy seems doing so without an intent.
- Tom is dancing with Jimmy in the exact same style as he does with Toots in The Zoot Cat short. Even the same music tune is played as they dance.
- The episode's name is a parody of the nickname given to general Norman Schwarzkopf Jr. , who was nicknamed "Stormin' Norman" due to his quickly achieved victory during the Gulf War.
