Overview

Surfer Supreme is a thirty-first episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.

Synopsis[]

Tom and Jerry have a musical surf-off at the Jersey Shore.

Plot[]

The episode begins with a contest announcement - the Dude (Tom Cat) and the Ace (Jerry Mouse) will be competing at the Jersey Shore for the Surfer Supreme Award. The audience is divided - Toodles Galore, Butch, and Topsy are supporting Tom from obvious reasons, while Spike Bulldog, Tuffy Mouse and City Wolf support Jerry. The guests rush through the parking and the beach to see their contestants. It turns out that Tom and Jerry are preparing their surfboards, while staring at each other with enmity.

Suddenly, Tom loads up his surfboard with sand and pours it over Jerry, which creates quite a nice looking sand castle. Jerry emerges from the construction as Tom is heading towards water. Jerry grabs a miniature volleyball and shoots it at Tom, who dodges the ball. At the same time, the Baby Seal is playing with a swimming board, when it gets hit with the ball Jerry hurled against Tom. The Dude doesn't make it through to the water, as he slips over the seal's swimming board, which allows Jerry reaching water first and accidentally hitting the Baby Seal. Tom grabs a fishing rod and catches both Jerry (on the hook) and the Baby Seal (by the loop, which entangles the seal's limbs), then he hurls both away the water. Jerry lands behind the contest audience in the volleyball net, which slings him back to the water, and the Baby Seal hits the volleyball net post.

The Ace and the Dude find a wave and perform their surfing skills. Tom tries to kick Jerry away, but he winds up under the water himself. Both contestants reach the shore through the sand, stopping by their audience. They emerge from the sand wearing Santa Claus beards and hats made of beach sand.

Since the surfing duel turned out to be the draw, the second part takes place on the top of "The Radical Pipeline", where the contestants bring engine-powered surfboards. Butch, Spike, and Topsy bring the Supreme Surfer award, which resembles five surfing boards joined to resemble a laurel, mounted on a base depicting waves. Spike gives them an agreement to sign, which states that the loser has to burn his surfboard black, then leave the beach and never come back. Both Tom and Jerry sign the deal, by leaving "X" marks. Spike takes the agreement and the second part of the contest begins with Toodles Galore waving the green flag.

The surfer race leads through the pipeline, which contains obstacles: a danger sign Tom simply crashes through and a tree obstructing the way where a squirrel leans to Tom's head. The rodent obstructs his sight for a while, which gives Jerry a chance to speed up. Tom and Jerry race headlong to the finish line and both reach it, however, none of them wins the award, much to the audience's amazement. It turns out that Baby Seal won the race, so Tom and Jerry have to burn their surfboards at night.

The episode ends with Toodles, Butch, Spike, Tuffy and Topsy carrying the Baby Seal on the surfboard to the prize.
