(The cartoon opens with a mother duck in a barn, sleeping in a nest of eggs. One egg bounces and rolls from the nest. A duckling starts to hatch with only its wings and feet out. It blindly walks to find its mother's nest and slips under Tom, sleeping outside the barn. This wakes up Tom, who accidentally breaks the egg, hatching Quacker in the process.)
Quacker: Mommy!
Quacker thinks that Tom is his mother and thus hugs the cat.
Quacker: My mommy. My dear, sweet mommy. I love my mommy and my mommy loves me!
(Tom prepares fire with two sticks and some firewood. He grabs a stick and ties Quacker to it. He puts the stick above the fire and rotates Quacker.)
Quacker: My mommy is so good to me. I have the best mommy in the whole world!
(Jerry walks into the scene and becomes shocked. He immediately rescues Quacker by swapping the duck with Tom's tail. Tom adds salt and pepper to his own tail without realizing it, until it catches fire. Tom jumps and yells in pain.)
(Jerry runs to the other side of the barn and unties Quacker from the stick. However, Quacker thinks that he is being kidnapped by Jerry, so he runs for help.)
Quacker: Help! Mommy! Mommy! Help! Help! Save me! Save me, momma! I want my momma! Help!
(While Tom is still blowing off his burnt tail, Quacker runs to him and hugs his face.)
Quacker: My nice mommy will save me, won't you, mommy?
(In the next scene, Tom is making dough and shapes it like a pillow.)
Quacker: Oh, mommy! It sure is nice of you to make me a little bed.
(Tom lies Quacker on the "bed", the baking pan.)
Quacker: Oh, mommy, it's just the right size.
Tom cuts a "blanket" from the dough and blankets Quacker's body with it.
Quacker: What you doin' there, mommy? Oh, a blanket? Well, isn't that nice, mommy?
Tom places Quacker inside the oven.
Quacker: Good night, mommy!
(Tom waves to the duck, but is hit on the head by Jerry using a broom, then gets knocked unconscious with the oven door. Jerry saves Quacker and runs to his mouse hole. As soon as the duck notices this, he jumps out of his "bed".)
Quacker: Uh-oh!
Quacker runs to Tom again.
Quacker: Momma!
Jerry notices the duck is gone. On the other side, Quacker tries to wake the unconscious cat.
Quacker: Speak to me, mommy, speak to me!
Quacker grabs a jug of water and pours it onto Tom, who then regains consciousness. The cat grabs Quacker who kisses him and hugs his face.
Quacker: My nice mommy...
Tom now prepares a "Stuffed Roast Duckling" recipe. He feeds pudding to Quacker.
Quacker: Do I have to eat all that, mommy?
Tom nods. Quacker becomes so stuffed that he becomes an obese duck.
Quacker: Oh, boy! Mommy, I'm stuffed!
Tom places Quacker into a tray full of potatoes and carrots and puts small broccoli pieces on to his feet. He covers the tray with a lid, places it in the oven, and locks the oven door.
Jerry runs to the oven, cutting part of its door with a can opener. Jerry attempts to save Quacker again, but Quacker throws carrots and potatoes at the mouse. Jerry then grabs Quacker, who repeatedly hits him with a carrot.
Quacker: Go away from me! Leave me alone!
Jerry runs to his mousehole and throws the carrot away. He then grabs a picture book which shows "Mother Duck" on the left page and "Mother Cat" on the right page. Quacker looks at both pages curiously, and eventually hugs the right page.
Quacker: (while hugging the right page) Mommy! My nice mommy. I love my mommy...
Jerry walks over and points at the left page, which should be the correct one.
Quacker: (while pointing towards the left page) THAT'S NOT MY MOMMY!!!
Quacker slams the book shut and runs away. Jerry emerges from the book, flattened.
Tom sees Quacker run into the house. Knowing that Jerry follows the duck, Tom traps Jerry in a can, puts him into other cans and ties them all up. He then throws the can down a well. Tom runs back to the house.
Back at the house, Tom is now stirring food in a pot.
Quacker: Are you fixing dinner again, mommy?
Tom nods. Quacker pulls Tom away, sits the cat down, and grabs the spoon so that the duck can take charge of the cooking.
Quacker: Now you sit right down and give me that spoon. You're a nice mommy, and I'm gonna fix dinner while you rest.
Quacker reads the cook book.
Quacker: Now, let me see. "Place young duck in a pot of boiling water..." Say, mommy, where do we get a young duck? We don't have any a...a...a-a-a-a-a...DUCK!?
Quacker now remembers the book that Jerry showed earlier. He then gulps.
Quacker: I get it. I'm the young duck. Oh, well...
Realizing that the young duck needed is him, Quacker lays the spoon at the tip of the pot. He then walks on the spoon.
Quacker: If my nice momma wants a duck dinner, my nice momma's gonna HAVE a duck dinner...
Quacker is now at the edge of the pot when Tom approaches him. The duck bids farewell to the cat.
Quacker: Goodbye. And I still love you, momma...
Tom somehow feels guilty. Quacker then dives in the boiling water, but Tom catches him before he touches the water.
Tom: NOOO!!!
Tom cries rivers of tears and hugs Quacker.
Quacker: My nice mommy... My nice, nice mommy...
Jerry climbs up the well, runs to the kitchen, and checks the pot of boiling water. He looks outside to see Tom and Quacker swimming in the pond, exchanging quacks. Quacker points to Tom and faces the camera. He declares that Tom is his "mother".
Quacker: That's my mommy!
