Synopsis[]
The Calaboose Cal 495 Road Race, originally priced at 500, is about to kick off with several cars lined up, including Jerry's racer. Just before the race begins, Tom arrives and mischievously nudges Jerry's car over the starting line, prompting Jerry to retaliate by spraying car exhaust into Tom's face. Calaboose Cal takes the stage to announce the race, while Miss Vavoom inquires why no contestant has ever won. Cal cheekily responds that no one has ever finished the race and probably never will as long as he’s putting his money on the line.
As the race is about to start, Tom playfully activates Jerry’s horn, startling the mouse as he checks his engine. Infuriated, Jerry retaliates with a loud blast from his megaphone. Cal momentarily halts his commentary to promote his rundown car dealership, showcasing an "almost-new" 1947 Buzzkirk Bazooka, which promptly falls apart on live television.
Cal then asks Miss Vavoom to initiate the race using a starting cannon. As Vavoom counts to three, Cal accidentally aims the cannon at the racers, leading to a chaotic crash that wipes out at least seven cars right off the bat. The race begins! Cal's chatter reaches a fever pitch with a live commentary on the action, while Tom and Jerry compete for the lead. Shortly after, Cal pauses again for another advertisement for his Calaboose Cal Car Company in Costa Mesa, California.
Back on the track, Tom attempts to squish Jerry with an oversized cartoon mallet but ends up smashing into the top of a tunnel, falling to the back of the pack as he gets flattened under the weight of other cars. Meanwhile, the remaining racers, led by Jerry, approach treacherous hairpin curves and navigate them successfully, leaving Cal astounded. In an attempt to create mayhem, Cal instructs Vavoom to flaunt her dangerous curves, resulting in a massive pileup involving at least seven cars. Just as Cal thinks his prize money is safe, Miss Vavoom points out that Tom and Jerry are still in the race, battling fiercely for the lead. Tom employs a fishing rod, a whip, and a giant spatula in his efforts to overtake Jerry, but the quick mouse maintains his lead.
In a desperate move to divert the racers, Cal shifts a sign that leads Tom and Jerry into the ocean. However, the racers quickly find their way back to the track, prompting a furious shark, annoyed by the disruption, to bite Cal's tail and chase him.
At the finish line, Cal readies a fire hose, only for it to spiral out of control. As Tom and Jerry approach the final stretch, Cal erects a brick wall, anticipating a spectacular crash. However, both Tom and Jerry smash right through the wall, claiming victory and the million-dollar prize. Emerging from the rubble, Cal laments the state of his car company and announces that he’s "washed up." Yet, he shifts gears one last time by teasing a new show, The Calaboose Cal Miracle Instant Weight Loss Program, before waving goodbye. Meanwhile, Tom—donning Cal's hat—Jerry, and Miss Vavoom simply shrug in disbelief.
