The cartoon opens with Tom chasing Jerry through the house, but all that can be seen is Tom's shadow. A crashing sound is heard. Upon hearing this, the housewife owner, Joan, scolded Tom and gave him a broom and a dustpan.
Joan: Well, Mr. Clumsy, every time you chase that mouse, you break something. Here, clean it up!
Tom sticks out his tongue to Joan.
Joan: And it better not happen again.
Tom continues cleaning and sees Jerry waving at him. He comes across and reads a newspaper that says:
WANTED: Intelligent cat to act as traveling companion for elderly lady ---
Apply in person ---
13 SUNNYDALE ROAD
Tom then throws down his broom and dustpan, grabs the paper, and leaves. He walks along Sunnydale Road and sees the house which is the only one covered by a storm cloud. He then walks up to the door and rings the doorbell. A loud bell goes off and the door opens. Tom then walks in and the door closes by itself. A voice is heard.
Witch: Just a minute, I'll be right down.
A door opens and a witch comes riding in on her broom.
Witch: So you want to be my traveling companion, eh? (laughs)
Tom shakes his head and tries to run away, but is grabbed by the witch.
Witch: Well, you don't look much like a witch's cat to me.
The witch mounts Tom on her broom. She scares the cat one time.
Witch: That's better. Let's go, buster!
The witch kickstarts her broom and set off, but they stop at the window where there is a small cemetery.
Witch: Look out there, sonny, (chuckles), you'll be number 8 if you don't hang on tight.
We see 8 graves, 7 of them with names of cats. At grave number 7 we see Butch's grave. The 8th is open with an empty tombstone.
Witch: Here we go!
They set off on a wild ride. The witch keeps on laughing. They pass through a cloud and we see Tom clinging to the witch. They pass through a cloud again. This time, the witch loses her hat. She found that Tom is using it to parachute down to the ground. The witch quickly grabs Tom and the ride continues, going back to the witch's house.
Witch: Not bad, sonny. You get the job.
The witch goes into her room. While Tom is standing up, the witch places her broom outside the room and orients Tom as to where he sleeps.
Witch: You sleep over there. Goodnight!
The witch points to Tom's bed. It is a cat box in the shape of a casket, frightening Tom. He looks at the witch's broom, ensures that the witch is sleeping, and sets up the broom. Tom kickstarts the broom and sets off. At first, Tom did have a hard time riding the broom, but he gets the hang of it eventually. He even does a few tricks while not watching where he is going. He gets caught in a tree branch and nearly chokes himself by the throat.
Tom flies by his house where Jerry is sitting on a chair enjoying a piece of cheese. Tom then flies by again and Jerry looks out the window. Jerry gives a bug-eyed look and throws away his cheese and Tom hovers like a helicopter. Jerry opens the front door and gets knocked down by Tom. Tom then gets off the broom and points to Jerry, as if to say "Go get him." The broom follows Tom's command and chases Jerry. The broom then blocks Jerry's mouse hole, hits Jerry into a wall and the broom sweeps Jerry into a dustpan and into the trash. Jerry peeks out, seeing Tom leave the house. Tom gives one snap before setting off, returning to the witch's house where the witch is waiting for him. The witch gives Tom an angry look and Tom gulps in fear.
Witch: Stealing a ride, eh? Well, I'll give you a REAL ride!
She creates a puff of red smoke and the broom takes off with Tom on it. The broom bumps Tom's head on the ceiling, drags his head through the ceiling, causes him to bounce down the stairs, and into a table. Tom tries to hide under a chair, but his rear end is sticking out and the broom hits him. Tom yelps in pain from the hit and springs out. The broom then acts like a pogo stick with Tom holding on.
The scene then changes to show Joan shaking the broom with Tom on it, revealing it was just a dream.
Joan: Wake up, Tom. Tom, you're dreaming. Wake up, Thomas, wake up!
Tom finally wakes up.
Joan: Now, finish cleaning up that mess.
Tom continues cleaning up the mess he made. He then looks at the broom, sits on it, and smiles. He gives the broom a kick and to his surprise, the broom goes off, flying towards the moon. Jerry and Joan looks out.
Joan: Now, what is that cat up to?
