The Great Donut Robbery is the thirteenth episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
A simple desire for donuts leads the animals into a conflict with the law.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Tom unsuccessfully attempting to snatch donuts from the table Armand has prepared until he slapped Tom's hand told him not to take the donuts. Before a second attempt is made, Jerry grabs three glazed donuts using a fork and flees with them outside the hotel Tom's attempts to retrieve those are stymied by street obstacles: first liquid concrete temporarily gives Tom footwear, then traffic incident, when Tom obtains a black bag to store the donuts, and finally a bank robbery where the criminals use the same-looking bag for keeping their loot. Tom literally falls upon the robbers and the bags become messed up. The robbers grab the money bag into their van, while the donut bag lands on an awning.
Tom and Jerry believe, that the bank robbers took their donut bag, so they sneak into the robbers' van. The car reaches an abandoned building outside the city, where the robbers hide their loot. Jerry moves into a mouse hole nearby, while Tom falls from the van and heads towards the hideaway's door. Jerry finds a way to the bag using the floor. The robber's feet render Jerry unconscious. At the same time, Tom is trying to retrieve the bag using a fishing rod. Both attempts fail - at the first time, Tom obtains the robber's beanie. The second attempt results in Jerry being fished from the hideaway. The animals decide to cooperate as following: Tom would allow Jerry to slide to the bag, then Jerry would hook it so Tom can wind it over.
The bag's weight causes significant trouble for Tom, when the bag starts to rock. The shorter criminal wakes up first and spots the bag being dragged away, so he wakes up his companion. The robbers unsuccessfully attempt to stop the bag being winded away with bludgeons, then they simply leap on it. Their combined weight causes Tom to collapse and damages the building from inside. Despite the mess, Tom and Jerry grab the bag and escape the building using a supermarket cart. Tom hooks the cart up to a lorry just when the robbers get after them in their van.
After a ride, Tom and Jerry are back in New York city. The lorry driver notices the animals in a cart after crossing the bridge and alleys. A squad car coming from the front forces the lorry to stop, then Tom and Jerry are launched with the bag in the air. They land on the same awning the donut bag is resting. The awning doesn't resist the weight of one cat, one mouse, and two bags with rather low-weight filling. Back on pavement, Tom and Jerry open the first bag to discover, that it contains money they don't find valuable. Two police officers interrupt their search and check the second bag, which does contain the donuts Tom and Jerry were after throughout the episode.
The animals cannot resist donut lust, so Tom forcibly grabs the donut bag from the police officers and flees, being chased by dismounted police officers, one squad car, and even one police helicopter. The episode ends.
