"Tiger Cat" is the first segment of the first episode of Tom and Jerry Tales. It is the first episode overall in the series and was originally broadcasted as the series premiere on September 23, 2006. It is directed by Neal Sternecky, written by Charles Schneider and storyboarded by Kevin Frank.
Synopsis[]
After an artistic monkey paints him orange and black as a tiger in revenge for ruining his artwork, Tom takes advantage of it by making everyone in the zoo think there's a tiger on the loose. However the trick suddenly turns when a real tiger is released as well.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Tom pursuing Jerry in a zoo. During the chase, the cat and mouse find themselves in a monkey enclosure, where a monkey is painting a picture. However, when Tom slips on a banana peel and accidentally ruins the painting, the monkey becomes furious and punishes Tom by painting him into a tiger as a result. Upon releasing Tom from the cage, catastrophe begins to ensue.
Meanwhile, Jerry, who has escaped from the chase, finds a crowd of people running and screaming about a loose tiger at a zoo. Before Tom could grab a bite to eat from a trashcan, Jerry, not knowing the "tiger" is Tom, bumps into the latter and the chase resumes. In the meantime, many of the zoo animals witness the chase, thinking that a tiger has actually escaped.
As Tom loses track of Jerry, he finds his reflection on the water in a hippo enclosure and finds himself looking like a tiger. Thus, he begins to scare some animals. However, it wasn't long until Jerry bumps into Tom once again and is chased to a fountain. However, while Tom chases Jerry around the fountain, the tiger paint comes off. Eventually, Jerry realizes that Tom was disguised as a tiger and brings the chase to a halt. As Jerry confronts Tom, they are quickly interrupted as a tiger snarls out of the blue and are met face-to-face with him.
The tiger chases Tom and Jerry around the zoo and goes into the tiger enclosure. Coming out from the enclosure, Jerry closes it and captures the tiger. Later, the zookeeper hails Tom and Jerry as heroes and the Mayor presents them with two gold medals. However, the tiger splashes himself in the cage and is revealed to be a capybara that the monkey painted into a tiger. As the zookeeper becomes suspicious, Jerry looks at the back of the mayor's shoe, revealing a tiger foot. So, he brings the elephant to spray water onto the mayor, revealing that he is the real tiger himself. The episode ends with the real tiger chasing Tom and Jerry through the zoo while the monkey witnesses the pursuit and throws orange and black paint all over the screen.

Notes[]
- This is the first episode of a Tom and Jerry series to use CGI animation.
- It is possible that the painter monkey and the tiger are friends, since the Monkey was responsible for helping the Tiger escape from the zoo in the first place, especially by painting him to look like the Mayor. He knows that the "captured tiger" turned out to be a fake because he's the "real escaped tiger" himself.
- What happened to the real mayor is unknown.
Errors[]
- After the shot where Tom and Jerry enter the painter monkey's cage, the pink paint spill near where they entered disappears.
- When the painter monkey hoists Tom out of his cage upon painting him into a tiger, the tip of Tom's tail changes from orange to white for the rest of the episode until the paint is washed off. However, it's possible that some of the paint may have dripped off off-screen.
- When Tom looks at his reflection in the water, the hippo's right leg is disconnected from the tree, floating unnaturally.
