Tom and Jerry in New York is an animated web television series based on the 2021 film Tom and Jerry. The show made its debut on HBO Max on July 1, 2021 from Warner Bros. Animation.[1]
Plot
The series follows the iconic cat and mouse duo as they settle into their new digs at the Royal Gate Hotel and unleash mayhem across the big city, inciting hilarious chaos uptown, downtown, and everywhere their manic escapades take them.
Format
The series ran for thirteen episodes in 2021 in two seasons, with the first season having seven episodes and the second having six episodes. Each episode ran for 20 minutes in four segments; each segment has a running time in between 5-6 minutes awhile the third segment in each episode runs between 3-4 minutes.
The first season has 28 segments in seven episodes. The second season has 24 segments in six episodes. In the second season, the third segments in each episode have musical segments.
Joey D'Auria - Butch Cat, Piano Player, Bocce Player, Health Inspector ("Planet of the Mice")
Rick Zieff - Spike Bulldog, Hot Dog Patron, Security Alarm, Male Zoo Patron, Devil Tom, Angel Tom, Carnival Announcer, Carny, the Rats, Dog Show Announcer, Boy, Hamster
The series takes place after the events of the 2021 film as Tom and Jerry are now residing in Manhattan. However, for unknown reasons, the live-action characters introduced in the aforementioned film such as Kayla and Terrance are absent.
This is also the first television series in the franchise that is based on a motion picture (not counting Tom and Jerry: Shiver Me Whiskers, which served as a pilot for Tom and Jerry Tales, since the events of the film are not referenced in that series at all).
All of the episodes take place in New York City, except for "Swiss Cuckoo", which takes place somewhere in Switzerland.
The working title for the series was Tom and Jerry in the Big City.
The series shares the same animation style from The Tom and Jerry Show (2014), mostly from the second season onwards. Plus, all episodes were directed by Darrell van Citters.
In contrast to previous Tom and Jerry shows whose episodes had varying themes and settings depending on the episodes, this show is mostly fixed to a same theme and setting of New York City, mainly due to it being a spin-off/follow-up series to the 2021 film.
Unlike the previous Tom and Jerry cartoons, the series is the first to fully show the human adult characters' both upper bodies and faces.
It also shares the same thing from the 1975 series.
