Overview

Too Much Monkey Business is the thirty-third episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.

Synopsis[]

Tom does his best to keep a VIP's chimpanzee away from the hotel's bananas, but Jerry makes it hard for him as he keeps constantly showing bananas to the chimp.

Plot[]

The episode begins inside the Royal Gate Hotel, where Jerry is carrying a cupcake. Suddenly, he spots Tom chasing him. To avoid a confrontation, Jerry turns away from Armand, who is nearby, but unfortunately heads straight into Tom. The two collide, squashing Jerry between them. After they recover, the concierge hits Jerry with a broom, sending him flying out the hotel's door. Moments later, Mr. Piper opens the door to the hotel. As Jerry retreats outside into the cold street, Armand instructs Mr. Piper to keep the mouse out. Meanwhile, Tom smugly enjoys the cupcake.

Famous rock star Rick Royce is visiting the hotel, and he is greeted by Molly, who turns out to be a huge fan. She is so excited to meet him that she struggles to finish her sentences. As she carries his long red coat like a red carpet, Jerry hides underneath it to sneak back inside the hotel.

Armand is intrigued, especially since Rick Royce had a troublesome last visit due to the damage caused by his mischievous chimpanzee, Barbells. However, Barbells has since become a gentleman thanks to behavior training—unless he’s given bananas, which drive him wild. Everyone, including Jerry, pays attention to Armand as he explains that he and Tom will store all the bananas. They lock them away in the kitchen storage closet, but to their dismay, Jerry has other plans for the bunch of bananas. The storage turns out to be no match for Jerry’s cunning tricks.

Tom arrives at Rick Royce's room to keep Barbells company while Rick sleeps before his next gig. He sits with the chimpanzee, but soon Barbells grows bored and starts looking at his phone. Just then, Jerry enters the room with a cart full of bananas. The sight of his favorite food drives Barbells wild, prompting Tom to dump the bananas out the window to prevent him from leaping off the balcony. However, Tom quickly saves the chimpanzee from falling.

To contain the chaos, Tom locks the balcony door. As Barbells tries to calm down, he spots another banana being dangled outside by Jerry with a fishing hook, which sends him into a frenzy. In a panic, Tom shuts the windows to keep Barbells inside, but the chimpanzee struggles to resist his obsession with bananas. Meanwhile, Tom heads to a mini-fridge for a drink and unknowingly finds that Jerry has replaced the soda cans with banana-flavored juice. After taking a sip, Tom burps, releasing a strong banana scent that sends Barbells into a tizzy.

Later, as Tom tries to adjust the room's temperature, he discovers that Jerry has stuffed the vent with bananas. When Tom raises the air, bananas fly everywhere, causing Barbells to go into a frenzy and wreak havoc in the room.

Jerry lures Barbells outside to retrieve the bananas. Still disoriented from the fruit, Barbells climbs onto the roof and begins to wreak havoc by destroying a nearby billboard. Tom does his best to keep up, but Barbells creates chaos in the hallways. In a hurry, Tom rushes to another room, grabs a bucket of ice water, and throws it at Barbells, which helps calm him down. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done.

Armand is furious when he sees the mess in the halls. He kicks both Rick Royce and Barbells out of the hotel. Armand then instructs Tom to clean up the disaster, while Jerry, holding a banana, playfully mimics a monkey as the episode concludes on this chaotic note.
