Overview

Toots is a character in the Tom and Jerry series who debuts in Puss n' Toots. She is the love interest of Tom Cat (and also Butch Cat in the 2014 series).

Character Overview[]

Appearance[]

Puss n' Toots - Toots

Toots in her first appearance.

In her first appearance, Toots was a small yellow cat with two pink bows on her head and neck, and a short tail. In The Bodyguard she appears in a cameo having white fur. After her appearance in The Mouse Comes to Dinner, her appearance became permanently blue bow, no bow around her neck and she looked slightly older than in previous shorts.

Personality[]

Toots is portrayed as a glamorous and flirtatious female cat. She exhibits a confident and sassy demeanor, using her charm to attract attention. Mostly she captures the affection of Tom, leading to his attempts to impress her.

History[]

Tom and Jerry original shorts[]

Toots is Tom's love interest that was originally introduced in Puss n' Toots when Mammy Two Shoes answers the door to receive a young female cat named Toots to take care of temporarily, Mammy places her in the couch. It doesn't take too long until Tom sees her, and he falls madly in love with her and attempts to impress her. She was quadrupedal like Tom.

In her next appearance in The Mouse Comes to Dinner, she appeared older than her debut appearance, in the cartoon she is able to speak, and is more anthropomorphic in this appearance. She is Tom's girlfriend invited over for dinner.

After The Mouse Comes to Dinner, she generally has been retired as she is eventually replaced by Toodles Galore. Her last appearance in the classic/golden-era was in a flashback in Smitten Kitten.

The Tom and Jerry Show (2014)[]

She has appeared in The Tom and Jerry Show (2014), she appears like she did in her appearance in the classic short, The Mouse Comes to Dinner. Toots was erroneously credited with Toodles Galore' name (who is Tom's primary love interest). She is a major recurring character in the series as Tom's main love interest, as well as Butch, who now competes with Tom for her affections much like the original Toodles in the shorts. However, Toots will be more likely to put her foot down or leave if it goes too far, such as in (Not) Your Father's Mouse-Stache.

She mostly appears as Tom's girlfriend, but not always, sometimes she becomes Butch's girlfriend, such as in Cat Dance Fever. She sometimes gets angry with Tom as episodes like Mouse Party and Flower Power imply Tom actually forgot her birthday and Valentine's Day more than once before.

Other appearances[]

She's absent in Tom and Jerry in New York and replaced with the actual Toodles Galore who is erroneously credited as "Toots".

She has made appearances in the book novels such as Warner Bros. Global Books in Party Crashing Tom and Winter Wipeout.

She also appeared in the mobile game Tom and Jerry Chase, where she is a playable character and in her correct name.

Trivia[]

  • After Toodles Galore, she is considered to be Tom's second most common love interest. And this was true until 2014 series. Because as of 2024, if you count all of her appearances in said series + the original shorts, she actually has more appearances than Toodles in the original shorts, Tom and Jerry Tales and Tom and Jerry in New York combined.
  • In the beginning of Puss n' Toots, she is dropped off by an unknown owner.
    • But already in 2014 series, especially in The Modern-Day Urban Setting scenario episodes, she is never shown or mentioned to have an owner, seeming as though she pretty much lives in a house all by herself independently without any humans, she may even own the house she lives in, making her one of the most independent animal characters on the show.
  • In The Tom and Jerry Show (2014). she is misnamed as Toodles Galore.
  • In Charm School Dropouts, it revealed that she's allergic to tiger lilies.
  • In Hula Whoops, she's a good surfer.
  • In Toodle Boom, she seems obsessed with chasing and catching mice compared to other episodes.
