Transcript

Top Dog is the twenty-second episode in the fifth season of The Tom and Jerry Show (2014).

Synopsis[]

The gang get more than they bargained for when the dog next door shows up.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Spike napping in his doghouse and Tom, Jerry and Tuffy are playing with a Frisbee in the yard. Tuffy accidentally throws the Frisbee into the neighbor's yard, forcing Tom to go over and retrieve it. There, he meets Benny Bulldog, who is new to the neighborhood, and gets beaten up by Benny in an attempt to assert his dominance. After Tom and the Frisbee get thrown back into their yard, Spike wakes up and confronts Benny, who proceeds to beat up Spike as well. Benny now asserts himself to be the top dog of the neighborhood.

Spike is now a servant to Benny to prevent himself from getting beaten up, though he still gets hurt by him. Butch tells the gang that they need to stand up to Benny and put him in his place. He proceeds to train Spike to fight Benny, only to fail. With this plot foiled, the gang and Butch decide to look for Benny's weakness. After testing out multiple objects, including a skeleton, bats, snakes (Butch's weakness), and loud noises, they eventually discover that Benny is afraid of spiders. With this in hand, the gang (minus Butch since he fainted from the site of a snake) uses Benny's arachnophobia against him and Benny promises never to bother them again for the rest of his life as he proceeds to build a brick wall around his house. The episode ends with Tom, Jerry and Tuffy resuming their game of catch and spider writes "Top Dog" in webbing on Spike's doghouse.

It's revealed that Tuffy can talk to spiders.
At the end of the episode, the spider spells the title of this episode over Spike's kennel.
After Benny hit Tom with the tennis racket, he said 'Game, set and match!' the name of a Tom and Jerry Tales Episode.
Tom and Jerry don't do their usual duel with each other and instead behave like friends like in The Tom and Jerry Show (1975).
