Torched Song is the twenty-third episode of Tom and Jerry in New York.
Synopsis[]
Tom competes with Butch to impress Toodles by playing the piano and by singing, which is apparently just a dream.
Plot[]
A singer and her piano assistant are practicing in the hotel's main corridor. Tom is resting nearby on his pillow and dreaming about Toodles. Jerry takes a chance and manages to steal a cookie from the table in the area. Tom is not reacting, for his thoughts are revolving around Toodles. He even passes Jerry the cookie platter, when the mouse has the stolen cookie crumbled. Tom closes his eyes and has a dream, when he is playing the piano and Toodles is singing a love song.
The concerto goes smoothly until Butch appears from nowhere, also playing a piano. Toodles finds a second piano player nice, therefore Tom feels jealous while he playing the piano but Butch feels jealous so he bang the piano with his fist causing sending Tom piano keys flying up everywhere. So Tom plays the piano until Toodles sees him while Tom playing the piano quickly causing sending the keys flying everywhere while Butch playing the piano until Toodles see him while Jerry conduct with his finger until Tom pulls the piano keyboard causing Butch piano closes the keyboard so Tom pushes the keyboard causing Butch piano keyboard pushes him to the ground. So Tom continues play the piano until Butch get ups and float himself and goes to her and Butch and Toodles sings together but Tom is playing the piano while he is singing but Jerry covers his ears and goes to Tom shoulder and he pulls Tom's ties causing him to choke.
While Toodles keeps singing and holding onto Butch, Jerry throws his voice behind Tom's head causing her to rush over to the cat and drops Butch on the floor. Toodles and Tom sing a duet together when Butch plays jazzy music on his music rapidly and Tom, moving Toodles aside, does the same too. Both cats play their piano at the same time so much, their pillars both go upwards to the top. Tom was in the lead but Butch catches up with his five clones playing saxophones and Tom uses his fives clones to play different instruments each, saxophones and trombones. Butch changes his tuxedo outfit into hipster fashion, plays his piano and breaks through the ceiling followed by Tom who is dressed Super Mario fashion singing and playing his piano all the way. Butch breaks out of his outfit, plays his piano with 8 paws so fast that his pillar blasts off like a rocket ship. flies to the sky and up to the moon.
Afterwards, Tom plays calmer tune and his pillar goes down where Toodles was waiting for him and he kisses her while Jerry watches, applauds and whistles. The dream drifts back into reality where Tom is still holding Toddles' portrait and his face blushes in embarrassment but he takes a bow anyway as Jerry applauds him ending the episode.

- This is the third time in the series Tom and Toodles are shown kissing each other.
- This is the second episode since "Billboard Jumble" to take place in Tom's dreams.
- Tom, Jerry, Butch, and Toodles are singing in this episode. Tom and Jerry's singing voices in this episode is unknown.
- This is one of the episodes where Tom and Jerry did not fight or chase.
- This episode marks Toots' first speaking appearance in Tom and Jerry in New York (although she only sings in this episode) and the first time she is voiced by Rachael MacFarlane. However, she would not gain any prominent speaking roles in the show until the second season.
- Tom's suit in this episode is a modified version of his butler outfit from the Postlewaite Manor-themed episodes of The Tom and Jerry Show, as his bow-tie is navy blue instead of red, his suit has more buttons on it (besides the two on the bottom), and the bottom part of his suit is black instead of white.
- Butch's suit is also a modified version of the one he wore in Battle of the Butlers.
- In one scene, Tom and Butch both wear outfits that appear to be loosely inspired by some of the outfits worn by British singer and pianist Elton John during some of his performances.
- The song Tom sings in this scene is also reminiscent to one of Elton John's songs, "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting".
