Tom and Jerry Wiki

Tyke Bulldog is a character in Tom and Jerry cartoon series. He is a gray bulldog puppy who is the son of Spike Bulldog, who is mostly seen appearing when his father Spike is present. He made his debut in the 1949 short Love That Pup.

He and his father would star in the spin-off series Spike and Tyke in 1957 in two shorts, as the father and son duo would starring in later in the comics books, and a revival form of Spike and Tyke as segments in Tom and Jerry Kids, which he is the series where he can speak.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Tyke is similar to his father Spike Bulldog. He has a gray coat, a red dog collar with gold spikes, and light blue eyes. He is mostly seen standing on four legs and standing on two feet (in a few instances).

Personality[]

Tyke is a sweet, happy and innocent puppy, who doesn't speak for most of the earlier installments. Spike and Tyke's characters, provide a model of father and son behavior, with Spike spending much of his free time taking Tyke on father-son outings, teaching him the facts of life for dogs and guarding him diligently when they are sleeping. He is very caring to his father Spike and wants to be like him when he grows up.

Like his father, however, he has little tolerance towards cats, particularly Tom, and will not waver to even use violence if the cat annoys him greatly. He can sometimes be smarter and more aware than his father Spike. This is proven in the cartoon Scat Cats, when alley cats disguise as the owners George and Joan, when Spike believes they were actually his owners, but Tyke wasn't fooled by this disguise.
